Alice Bell, PT, DPT

Senior Payment Specialist at APTA

Alice Bell, PT, DPT, is on staff as a senior payment specialist in the Public Affairs Unit of the American Physical Therapy Association. Alice received a bachelor's degree in physical therapy from Northeastern University in Boston, MA and a doctor of physical therapy degree from … the University of Montana. A board-certified clinical specialist in geriatric physical therapy, she has lectured and written many articles on topics related to physical therapy and the older adult. She has practiced in a variety of settings and has 38 years of experience as a physical therapist. Dr. Bell has presented at many national conferences. Her professional activities include serving as a member of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Technical Expert Panel for Skilled Nursing Alternative Payment Systems, APTA staff representative for the CPT Editorial Panel, APTA appointee to the NDHI Opioid Crisis Workgroup and the National Quality Partnership Opioid Stewardship Action Team, member of the National Quality Partnership Leadership Consortium, and APTA representative to the National Quality Forum Measure Applications Partnership. Dr. Bell has been involved in bundled payment demonstration projects and exploring alternative practice and payment model efforts focused on early and direct access to physical therapy.

Drew Contreras, PT, DPT

Vice President of Clinical Integration and Innovation, APTA

Drew Contreras serves as the American Physical Therapy Association's lead staff for clinical integration, engagement, and support under its Scientific Affairs Unit. He also leads on matters regarding clinical innovation and emerging practice patterns and provides insight and … value to organizational priorities with a focus on clinical content strategy for APTA. Contreras' career as a physical therapist spans more than 25 years. He has an extensive background in the U.S. Army and has received numerous military honors and awards for his exemplary service. He has served on a variety of professional boards, most recently holding the position of vice president of the Federal Physical Therapy Section of APTA. Contreras is a board-certified clinical specialist in sports physical therapy.

Joseph Brence, PT, DPT, MBA, FAAOMPT

Head of Clinical Strategy at MedBridge

Joseph is an energetic healthcare innovator and leader with a demonstrated track record of clinical excellence, specifically focusing on strategies to transform the delivery of post-acute care. Joseph is currently employed by MedBridge as the Head of Home and Community Care Strategy … and Solutions. Prior to this role, he focused on innovation, strategy and education within the post-acute division of a large IDFS. Joseph is an equity partner at the Nxt Gen Institute of Physical Therapy and sits on the advisory board for the Rangos School of Health Sciences at Duquesne University. He has assisted with national healthcare strategy efforts at the American Physical Therapy Association, as well as the Department of the VA. Joseph is also a faculty member at NYU as a course lead for entrepreneurship and strategic management.

Leigh Wager
