Rehab Management of Multiple Sclerosis: What You Need to Know (Recorded Webinar)
Persons with multiple sclerosis (MS) are being referred to therapy in increasingly greater numbers. However, the training that most clinicians receive in school is frequently inadequate to meet the needs of these patients and often results in poor outcomes and reluctance on the part of physicians to refer these patients to therapy in the future. The purpose of this course is to present the most current evidence on the topic of rehabilitation interventions for persons with MS, as well as to provide a clear understanding of the neuropathology and how it contributes to a unique presentation, followed by a description of common impairments and functional limitations. As MS is a disease that results in progressive neurologic degeneration, information regarding management of the disease over the spectrums of time and disability will also be emphasized. Examination and intervention strategies for both common and uncommon presentations will be discussed. Case studies will be used to emphasize the spectrum of disability.
Advanced Physical Therapy Management of Multiple Sclerosis
Presented by Herb Karpatkin, PT, DSc, NCS, MSCS and Evan T. Cohen, PT, MA, PhD, NCS (Co-Author)
Advanced Physical Therapy Management of Multiple Sclerosis
Persons with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) frequently receive referrals for physical therapy. Although most physical therapy schools present basic knowledge in pathophysiology, evaluation, and treatment of persons with MS, information on advanced practice is necessary as MS is a disease of tremendous variability which can evolve significantly over time, with patients presenting with different levels of symptomatology and severity over the course of their lifetimes. The purpose of this course is to present a description of advanced physical therapy practice for PTs who work with MS. This makes the course an excellent means of preparing for the NCS exam.
