Neurological and functional recovery following a neurological insult vastly varies in terms of the clinical presentation and the corresponding intervention. This course covers evidence-based interventions for upper extremity conditions with significant impairments during acute to sub-acute stages of recovery. More specifically, this segment will focus mainly on interventions that address the flaccid to significantly limited motor functions.

1. Clinical Presentations
This chapter will describe the clinical presentation from the flaccid/ “non-assistive” upper extremity to emerging motor control.
2. Interventions at Motor Recovery Levels One and Two
This chapter will identify various impairment-focused and function-based interventions appropriate for the flaccid/non-assistive upper extremity while discussing the indications and scientific and theoretical bases for specific interventions.
3. Interventions at Motor Recovery Level Three
This chapter will identify and incorporate evidence-based strategies to address the painful and subluxed shoulder, with a particular view of interventions at motor recovery Level Three.
