Format and structure may differ from standard MedBridge courses. Gait deviations are commonly seen in aging adults with orthopedic and neurologic deficits. Addressing these deviation are critical in promoting functional independence and decreasing fall risk. Are you struggling with identifying the cause of the different deviations and designing the optimal intervention? During this session, the presenter will explore ways to provide specific and realistic intervention strategies to address common impairments in people with varying gait deviations. Multiple videos will be provided of both the gait deviations and intervention options. The intervention options will be focused on bridging the gap between scientific evidence and the realities of practice.

1. Introduction to Normal Gait
This chapter will provide the foundation for appropriate analysis of gait. Normal gait phases and critical events will be highlighted.
2. Common Deviations During the Gait Cycle
This chapter aligns the most common individual joint deviations for people with CVA with the critical events of normal gait.
3. Evaluation Findings and Interventions for Biomechanical Constraints
This chapter emphasizes the importance of knowing the ‘why’ of the deviation. Assessing biomechanical constraints will be reviewed with recommended interventions for each potential finding.
4. Deviations With Other Diagnoses
This chapter will review some diagnosis specific gait deviations, with examples such as scissoring and festinating gait.
5. General Gait Deviation Descriptions
This chapter will review general gait deviations that are commonly seen with multiple diagnoses. This will include deviations such as decreased gait speed, asymmetrical step length, decreased foot clearance, decreased weight shift and decreased reactive stepping. This section will provide specific intervention ideas for each of the noted limitations.
