1. Understanding the CDC’s NHSN VAE Surveillance Tool
The CDC's VAE surveillance tool will be introduced and the acronyms and definitions of each tier discussed. Practice modules following step-by-step monitoring will be presented.
2. Evidence-Based Best Practices to Reduce or Eliminate VAE
This chapter will review each element in the bundles of practice that have been published and recommended to reduce ventilator-acquired events.
3. Implementing a VAE-Prevention Evidence-Based Protocol
This chapter presents the importance of the interdisciplinary team, which is critical when there are many tasks that need to be completed and adherence needs to be monitored. Steps that should be taken to successfully implement new best practice, sustaining best practice, and monitoring adherence to best practice are presented.
