Sexual harassment is the most common type of workplace harassment. This course is designed to teach employees how to develop effective strategies to prevent sexual harassment and communication skills when reporting offenses. Students will develop skills and knowledge related to sexual harassment and be able to understand sexual harassment prevention, reporting strategies, and application in the workplace. This course specifically addresses the Connecticut Human Rights and Opportunities Act, or Time's Up Act.

1. Sexual Harassment in the Workplace

This chapter will state what constitutes sexual harassment and its associated cost so learners can examine and understand what the law says about harassment. This chapter will define the laws that govern sexual harassment in the workplace and will also examine the background of sexual harassment terms and their meanings. The instructor will explain the cost of sexual harassment claims and provide examples of past claims.

2. Determining Liability

Chapter 2 will review determining liability. The instructor will review kinds of harassment and how to recognize and avoid these behaviors. Then, we will review liability actions for supervisors and employees regarding sexual harassment.

3. Defining Policies and Procedures

Chapter 3 reviews applying proper mediation procedures and implementing anti-harassment procedures. It provides examples of both the mediation process and the anti-harassment policy.

4. Investigation Process for Reporting Claims and Remediation

This chapter teaches students how to execute correct procedures when addressing accusations of harassment. It also defines remedies for sexual harassment and presents ways to stop harassment and ensure it does not happen again. The chapter lists steps for investigating reports of sexual harassment and provides examples of possible remedies.

5. Other Forms of Sexual Harassment

Chapter 5 will explain protected characteristics included with sexual harassment and will review gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation as protected characteristics.

6. Recommendations for Addressing Workplace Sexual Harassment

In this chapter, students will view recommended approaches for avoiding and preventing sexual harassment.
