This chapter provides an overview of how sleep affects cognition and, in turn, performance.
3. The Effects of Poor Sleep on Health
This chapter describes the relationship that poor sleep has with the onset, development, and progression of chronic diseases (diabetes and other metabolic syndromes, cardiovascular disorders, mental health disorders, etc). It also summarizes the evidence linking poor sleep in adolescence to chronic disease, emphasizing the need to focus on healthy lifestyle choices early in life.
