How can manual therapy address the needs of complex patients following acute injury or given chronic conditions? In this course, Gregory S. and Vicky Saliba Johnson, founders of the Institute of Physical Art and creators of the Functional Manual Therapy(R) (FMT) approach, answer this question by defining and applying the mechanical pillar of their Functional Manual Therapy(R) (FMT) approach to actual patient care. The course demonstrates the application of mechanical assessment and treatment techniques through management of a chronic pain patient with complex mechanical impairments.
This course is part of a six-part series with Gregg and Vicky Johnson, which is designed to provide the participant with a working understanding of the FMT system of patient care through live patient demonstrations and lectures to support the clinical reasoning behind the progression of treatment and skills used:

1. Assessment
The first chapter of this course features a three-part breakdown of the assessment of a complex patient, focusing on his case history, subjective report, and an objective evaluation incorporating specific and functional mechanical tests.
2. Treatment
This chapter focuses on treatment techniques applied immediately after the objective evaluation in chapter two. Gregory S. Johnson applies manual treatments focusing on soft tissue mobilization, joint mobilization, and specific mobilizations of the coccyx, psoas, and the viscera.
3. Re-assessment
The final chapter of this course demonstrates a brief re-assessment of the patient, incorporating the same tests (with split screen shots of before and after) from the assessment phase in chapter two to demonstrate the patient’s progress.
