Dora Gosselin


Of the many professional roles and responsibilities that Dr. Dora Gosselin has, helping children explore the world through movement is the most important. She does this directly, as a practicing pediatric physical therapist, and, indirectly, as she uses her diverse experiences in pediatric practice to provide relevant, contemporary and meaningful lessons to her students with the goal of inspiring future pediatric physical therapists. Since receiving a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from California State University, Sacramento and a doctorate in physical therapy from Duke University School of Medicine, over the past 15 years, Dr. Gosselin has held clinical and academic roles. She is currently an Assistant Professor and the Director of Clinical Education in the Department of Physical Therapy at High Point University. Dr. Gosselin is a Board-Certified Specialist in Pediatrics by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). She also holds a certification in pediatric and baby Neurodevelopmental Treatment from the Neurodevelopmental Treatment Association (NDTA). She is an APTA Certified Clinical Instructor and was formerly the co-director of the Pediatric Physical Therapy Residency at Duke University.

Dr. Gosselin holds state and national roles within her professional organizations and has mentored numerous physical therapy students and pediatric physical therapy residents. She has received the "Duke DPT Excellence in Teaching" award and numerous recognition in clinical practice. She is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Otago where she is studying The Impact of Unpredictability on the Biomechanical Variables of Gait in Children with Cerebral Palsy. Her work in this area has been funded by both the Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy as well as the NDTA, and, internally, by HPU.

Orthopedic surgery is a common intervention for children with cerebral palsy. Often times the goal of the surgical intervention is to improve or prolong a child's ability to ambulate. This course will discuss current trends in the orthopedic management of ambulatory children with cerebral palsy including single-event multilevel surgery and post-intervention outcomes. The course will also provide a framework for the gait assessment and clinical assessments that are critical for the pre-surgical decision making process.
