Two of the most debated topics related to ACL reconstruction rehabilitation are obtaining full knee extension ROM and open-kinetic-chain strengthening. While there is tradition in rehabilitation of how this should be managed, there is solid evidence on the importance of incorporating specific treatments with detailed parameters in order to optimize outcomes for our patients. This webinar will enable physical therapy and athletic training professionals to apply the current best evidence with these two complicated topics to their patients.

Join us for this webinar that examines these hot topics in ACL reconstruction rehabilitation. Learn from leading experts in the field, gain practical insights, and acquire strategies that you can use immediately in the clinic.

Learning Objectives
  • Apply the evidence regarding the complications from not achieving full knee extension ROM after ACLR
  • Determine strategies for clinically improving full knee extension ROM
  • Examine the evidence for and against early open-kinetic-chain strengthening after ACLR
  • Implement a systematic approach to prescribing open-kinetic-chain strengthening after ACLR

Management of low back pain in athletes can be frustrating and intimidating for the rehabilitation professional. Typically, athletes are under a large amount of pressure to return to sport quickly and perform at their highest level. How can we streamline treatment in a way that builds confidence in the treatment plan for the provider and is effective at managing the athlete's low back pain? Dr. Kyle Matsel highlights four different case presentations of athletes with varying types of low back pain and demonstrates the best application of treatment for the athlete with low back pain. The goal of this course is to sharpen the treatment skills of the sports physical therapist through live case examples for athletes with low back pain and improve clinical decision-making skills regarding exercise progression and return to sport.

Return to Full Performance After ACL Reconstruction Rehabilitation (Recorded Webinar)

Presented by Kyle Matsel, PT, DPT, PhD, SCS, CSCS and Phil Plisky, PT, DSc, OCS, ATC, CSCS

Return to Full Performance After ACL Reconstruction Rehabilitation (Recorded Webinar)

Subscribe now, and access clinical education and patient education—anytime, anywhere—with video instruction from recognized industry experts.
Video Runtime: 153 Minutes; Learning Assessment Time: 27 Minutes

This course is a recording of a previously hosted live webinar event. Polling and question submission features are not available for this recording. Format and structure may differ from standard MedBridge courses.

While rehabilitation professionals may understand how to address impairments early after ACL reconstruction, frequently it is challenging to integrate evidence-based practices for return to high-level function and sport, including addressing known risk factors. Higher-level exercise progressions that address speed, power, and agility are common in the later stages of rehabilitation, but many rehabilitation professionals do not fully integrate proper fundamental movement correction into this training. Better fundamental movement training foundation, combined with power, speed, and agility, provides for higher-level performance, more efficient rehabilitation, and better return-to-sport outcomes.

The goal of this course is to equip the rehabilitation professional with research-based examination techniques and interventions for the later stages of ACL reconstruction rehabilitation. Additionally, the clinician will be able to identify and mitigate known risk factors for injury as part of the rehabilitation process.

Exploring Popular Questions About Evidence-Based Practice (Recorded Webinar)

Subscribe now, and access clinical education and patient education—anytime, anywhere—with video instruction from recognized industry experts.
Video Runtime: 57 Minutes; Learning Assessment Time: 23 Minutes

Rehabilitation providers often have difficulty implementing evidence in patient care. Patients, clients, coaches, or referral sources depend on rehabilitation providers to address tough questions regarding patient outcomes, but all providers may not be up-to-date with the current recommendations based on the literature. The goal of this course is to provide real-world application of the research in clinical practice by addressing common questions that rehabilitation professionals may have in a variety of areas.
This course will address common evidence-based practice questions to better prepare athletic trainers and other providers to educate their patients and design optimal rehabilitation programs to improve outcomes. The questions addressed in this course include

1) Does graft type influence your rehabilitation process after ACL reconstruction?
2) What factors influence the decision-making process of whether patients with a lumbar spondylolisthesis should be braced?
3) Are group-based arm care programs effective at reducing injury incidence?

Video Runtime: 57 Minutes; Learning Assessment Time: 9 Minutes

ACL reconstruction rehabilitation seems straightforward, yet it is incredibly complex. With so many impairments to work on, how do you prioritize what to address and when to address it? And then how do you know the patient is ready for the next phase of rehab? How do you do this in an efficient manner under the constraints of insurance? Then, when the time comes, how do you know when your patient is ready to return to sport? This course will merge an evidence-based perspective with real-world practice experience and give you a clear rehabilitation process rather than a rigid protocol to follow. This course will give an evidence-based road map to optimize both rehabilitation and outcomes for patients who have undergone an ACL reconstruction. The course will conclude with clear return-to-sport and discharge criteria to ensure the patient is ready to go back to sport with as many risk factors removed as possible.

Assessing and Treating Athletes With Extension-Oriented Low Back Pain (Recorded Webinar)

Assessing and Treating Athletes With Extension-Oriented Low Back Pain (Recorded Webinar)

Video Runtime: 48 Minutes; Learning Assessment Time: 23 Minutes

Sports medicine professionals who evaluate and treat athletes with low back pain (LBP) should clearly identify a directional preference (flexion or extension) to complement the associated medical diagnosis. In the case of an extension-oriented problem, imaging should be obtained to allow for accurate classification of any bony lesion present. Staging of lumbar spondylolysis to include early, progressive, or terminal needs to be considered to best form a plan of care and return-to-sport target date. Rehabilitation efforts should include standard core stabilization, and an emphasis should be placed on identifying and correcting common movement impairments often not identified in routine LBP care. Finally, discharge testing should include clearing known movement-oriented risk factors to maximize the probability of a successful return to sport and minimization of reinjury.
