1. Being Empathetic and Expressing Empathy
In this podcast, we take a look at a typical home health visit, in which a nurse is providing education to a patient regarding oxygen safety and attempting to facilitate a health behavior change. In the first scenario, the nurse approaches the patient using a directive approach and increases the patient's resistance to health behavior changes. In the second scenario, the nurse is empathic in her verbal and nonverbal expressions, supporting the patient in positive health behavior changes.
