Understanding Therapeutic Alliance and Patient Expectations
The biggest outcome issue in physical therapy is that most patients drop out of care, and almost no one has addressed content toward this significant issue. Through this intermediate-level course, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and athletic trainers will improve their understanding of patients and their communication with them. As a result, they will see fewer drop-offs and see improved clinical results. In a larger scope, this content will improve the patient experience across the industry and drive improvements in outcomes, reputation, and payment.

Through this intermediate-level course, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and athletic trainers will improve their understanding of patients and their communication with them. Enhancing Patient Engagement Throughout the Course of Care
Presented by Craig Phifer, PT, MHA
Enhancing Patient Engagement Throughout the Course of Care
We currently have a good understanding of the importance of patients taking an active role and being engaged in their own health. However, very few courses address specifically how we help patients go from being historically passive healthcare consumers to being actively engaged in their health. Through this intermediate-level course, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and athletic trainers will develop an understanding of the importance of patient engagement and garner concrete communication strategies to achieve it. The additional benefit to our profession and healthcare is that patients who are more engaged in healthy behaviors are more likely to opt for active treatments, like physical therapy, versus passive treatments, like surgery and pain medication.

Patient Diagnosis: Alliance Building

Patient Diagnosis: Alliance Building
Physical therapy patients are often expecting much more communication than they receive from their therapists. While therapists receive extensive training in treatment and diagnosis, they spend much less time developing their patient communication skills. In this demonstration, we'll look at how to better meet patient expectations by communicating more effectively during the patient diagnosis.
30-Second Close Demonstration
Presented by Craig Phifer, PT, MHA
30-Second Close Demonstration
One of the most memorable aspects of care for our patient is the end of the initial evaluation. How we perform in that portion of the session can determine how effective our care will be and can directly impact whether or not the patient will drop off. In this demonstration, we'll look at the "30-second close," an effective strategy for communicating effectively with your patients at the end of each session.
30-Second Open: Next Session
Presented by Craig Phifer, PT, MHA
30-Second Open: Next Session
The beginning of each therapy session is one of the most critical moments in the development of a strong therapeutic alliance. A strong start ensures you can effectively continue the momentum from your previous session and help your patients reach their goals. In this demonstration, we'll look at how to set a positive tone at the start of each session by using an effective 30-second open.
